DESCRIPTION
The 9 Days Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro is a top adventure preferred by our many clients, travelers, hikers, climbers and trekkers for its low traffic, beautiful scenery and high summit success rate. The 9-day Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro climb begins in the west and begins with a long drive from Moshi/Arusha to Londorossi Gate. The first 2 days are spent trekking through the lush rainforest to the Shira Plateau. Then continue climbing the other days and reach the summit in good conditions. They walk alongside a mountain guide with supporters carrying rubbish.
ITINERARY
Day 1: Lemosho Gate to Big Tree Camp
Distance covered: 7km / 4.3mi, Approx. time taken: 4 hours, Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included
You will be picked up from your hotel in Arusha/Moshi around 08:00 and taken to the Lemosho Gate on the west side of Kilimanjaro. After checking in, still begin our steady climb through the forests of Lemosho Gate to reach Big Tree Camp where you will spend the night on this first night.
Day 2: Big Tree Camp to Shira I Camp
Big Tree Camp: Distance covered: 7km / 5.3mi, Approx. time taken: 5 hours, Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included
Today you walk across a plateau of grass and heather covered moorland dotted with volcanic rock formations. We will arrive at Shira I Camp, where there is often a glimpse of Kibo Peak in the distance in the clouds. We gained quite a bit of altitude today and parts of the route are quite steep.
Day 3: Shira I Camp to Shira II Camp
Shira Camp 2: Distance covered: 10km / 5mi, Approx. time taken: 4 hours, Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included
On this day you will have the opportunity to see the Northern Ice Fields from the west side of Kilimanjaro with some unusual views of Kibo Peak. Our steady climb through the Shira Plateau wasteland will help acclimatization and we will enjoy great panoramic views. You will then arrive at Camp Shira II. In the afternoon you will have an acclimatization walk and then return to the camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Shira II Camp to Barranco Camp
Barranco Camp: Distance covered: 10km / 6.2mi, Approx. time taken: 6 hours, Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included
Continue your climb, beginning with a climb with sweeping panoramic views, trekking into the desert climate zone of the highlands and across the lava ridges below the Western Breach Glaciers. You'll reach the prominent top of the Lava Tower, our highest point for the day and a great place to enjoy your lunch. In the afternoon we make a steep descent to our overnight camp at the foot of the Gran Valle de Barranco, sheltered by towering cliffs but with sweeping views of the plain.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Karanga Camp: Distance covered: 5km / 3.4mi, Approx. time taken: 4 hours, Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included
Our fifty day begins with the descent to the Gran Barranco, a huge gorge. Then we come out steeply, up the Great Wall of the Ravine, which separates us from the southeastern slopes of Kibo. It's a climb up rocks, not technical, but long and tiring. We drive under the Heim and Kersten glaciers towards the Karanga Valley. From here we have a steep climb from Karanga valley to Karanga camp. You can opt for an acclimatization hike at around 4,200m in the afternoon before returning to camp for the night.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Barafu Camp: Distance covered: 4km / 1.9mi, Approx. time taken: 4 hours, Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included
After a good night's sleep and breakfast, we start our trek to Barafu Camp which is not far from Karanga Camp. The hike takes us through lonely, sunny slopes without any vegetation around us. It's a tough and steep hike, made difficult by the altitude. Once at camp we eat and spend the afternoon resting as we prepare for a long night and day. It's important to stay hydrated and warm. We have an early dinner and then try to get some sleep as the will be up between 11pm and 12pm to begin the climb to the top of Uhuru Peak.
Day 7: Barafu Camp to UHURU PEAK to Crater Camp
Barafu Camp: Distance covered: 5km / 1.9mi, Approx. time taken: 7 hours & 1-2hours to Crater, Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included
Wake up before sunrise to approach the summit. Arrive at Uhuru Peak in the early afternoon when only a few groups are out. A short descent takes you to Crater Camp, situated on soft sand near the famous Furtwangler Glacier. Crater Camp is not a separate route, but a challenging extension that can in principle be added to any route. It includes staying overnight in the crater bowl. An incredible experience that only some of the most adventurous climbers enjoy.
Day 8: Crater Camp to Uhuru Peak to Millennium Camp
In the morning, after an early breakfast, we begin our descent by returning to Stella Point and then descending a scree slope past Barafu Camp for a short rest before heading to Millennium Camp for a well-deserved rest.
Day 9: Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate
Today you will trek through the rainforest to Mweka Gate where we will do the park paperwork and receive certificates to display with pride! We will then be picked up by our vehicles and returned to your pre-arranged hotel in Arusha/Moshi.
